Understanding The Eligibility Criteria For CIA Certification

The CIA certification is crucial certification for anyone seeking a career in auditing. Offered by the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA), it is an internationally-recognised programe that covers all major industries. Obtaining the CIA certification allows internal auditors to demonstrate their credibility to current and potential employers, providing them a competitive advantage over their peers.

Aside from establishing credibility, CIA certification holders enjoy attractive salary packages and have access to various job roles within the auditing industry. This certification programe is highly regarded by employers globally, as it validates a candidate’s knowledge and expertise in internal auditing. Therefore, the CIA course in Delhi is an excellent investment for individuals seeking to advance their auditing careers.

What are the CIA certification requirements?

To attend the Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) exam, you must prove that you meet the criteria and give the IIA (Institute of Internal Auditors) all the required paperwork. You have to submit everything via the IIA’s certification document portal. If you’ve changed your name since you got any of the documents, you’ll need to show legal evidence of the name change as well.

Education

To be eligible for the CIA course in Delhi for certification, you must have completed a bachelor’s degree or higher from a university approved by the IIA. You can still apply if you’re currently in your final year of bachelor’s degree.

If you’re not yet in your final year of study, you’ll need to pass the Internal Audit Practitioner Exam to be eligible. However, we recommend that you wait until you’re in your final year of study and take the CIA Exams instead of taking the Internal Audit Practitioner Exam as a means of becoming eligible. If you’re unsure if your university is accredited by the IIA, please contact them for more information.

Character Reference

As a CIA candidate, you need to provide a character reference form signed by someone who holds a CIA, CGAP, CCSA, CFSA, or CRMA certification or your supervisor. This form is crucial as it confirms that you adhere to the IIA’s Code of Ethics and demonstrate strong moral principles.

Proof of Identification

To complete your CIA application, you must provide a valid form of identification that includes a clear and legible photo. This can be a copy of your passport or any other acceptable form of identification. Please note that the IIA will not accept expired identification documents.

Work Experience

Before registering and taking the CIA exams, work experience is not required for CIA candidates. However, candidates must fulfil the following work experience requirements to become certified:

  • Candidates with a Master’s degree need 12 months of internal auditing experience.
  • Candidates with a Bachelor’s degree need 24 months of internal auditing experience.
  • Candidates with an Associate’s degree or three A-Level Certificates with a grade of C or higher need 60 months of internal auditing experience.

Requirement Exemptions

If you are a qualified member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) or an active and licensed U.S. Certified Public Accountant (CPA), you do not need to provide proof of education and work experience to become a CIA candidate.

Eligibility Period

After applying, the IIA approves a candidate’s application for three years. If the certification process is not completed within that time frame, any fees paid and exams passed will be forfeited. However, there is an option to purchase a one-time 12-month extension for a fee.
